documenting: communicating

I am driven by an almost obsessive need to document. I journal constantly and find that photography and filmmaking offer me absorbing avenues for documenting my world — a world in which there is a strange and gentle beauty in things overlooked, abandoned, outdated, rejected or shabby. Weather-beaten, timeworn subjects remind me to live in the moment and to feel deep appreciation and gratitude for this gift called life.

For my personal photography work I am drawn to abstract and often impressionistic images. Behind the camera my intent is always to enter into the energy and spirit of the subject in front of the lens and let it share its own story. A good deal of the fun for me is interpreting the images hours or even days later and discovering the messages that emerge.
